Questions
What parents ask us most
Do you take my insurance?
Hush is out of network with insurance plans. You pay for each session yourself, and we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses part of it. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid.
What is the monthly receipt, and how do I use it?
It is an itemized receipt (a superbill) that your plan may use to reimburse part of out-of-network care. It lists the dates and kind of session, and you send it to your plan. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see, and your plan decides whether it pays anything.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of your care before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
How much does it cost, and can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Your clinician gives you the fee in writing before you start, and you pay at the end of each session by card. HSA and FSA cards work. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one.
What happens in the first session?
It lasts about an hour. You talk with your clinician first, while your child settles in or waits in the quiet corner. Your clinician explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy. At the end, you decide together whether to continue.
How often, and for how long?
Child sessions are 45 minutes and parent sessions 50. Most families come weekly or every other week. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and we do not promise a number of sessions.
Are you licensed where I live?
Our licenses are from Nevada. By video we see families in states where we are licensed: today, Nevada. Your child and you must be in Nevada during the session.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock, so do not use them to reach us in a crisis.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What your child shares stays in the session, with limits the law sets. If someone is at serious risk of harm, or abuse of a child is suspected, your clinician may have to tell others. We explain this in writing before you start, and agree with you what we share about each session.
How does consent work for my child?
A parent or legal guardian signs consent before every child's first session. Your clinician explains Nevada's rules in writing. We see children from 5 to 12; for teens we can suggest colleagues.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment. If your child has a hard morning, call us; we would rather move the session than have anyone come in overwhelmed.
Do you diagnose autism or ADHD?
No. We do not diagnose or test. We work with what you already know about your child. If you are still looking for an evaluation, we can help you find a clinic that does them.
Can my child keep the camera off by video?
Yes. The camera can stay off for the whole session, and your child can talk while drawing or playing out of frame. If your child wants it on later, that is also fine.
What if my child will not talk or stay in the room?
That is common, and it is not a problem to fix. Sessions can begin on the floor with blocks, or with a parent in the room. Your clinician follows your child's lead, and you can step out together at any time.
