Therapy for autistic and ADHD children, in a room made for sensitive senses

Hush is a two-clinician practice in Reno. Children come to a quiet, low-lit room, and parents get sessions of their own. By video, the camera can stay off.

Other help

  • Who comes

Teens and adults on their own: we can suggest colleagues.

  • What we do

Medication: a pediatrician or another prescriber handles that.

  • Evaluations

A diagnosis or a school evaluation comes from an evaluation clinic or your pediatrician.

  • When

A crisis: call or text 988, or call 911. We are not an emergency service.

A planned session each week or every other week, in the room or by video.

The room

The room, before you come

Many of our children do better when they know what the room is like. This is the guide families get before a first visit.

  • Light

Lamps and daylight through sheer curtains. No fluorescent tubes, and you choose how bright it is.

  • Sound

Cushions, rugs and curtains soften the echo. The door closes quietly and no music plays unless your child asks.

  • Seats

Armchairs, floor cushions and a table. Sit, lean or stand; no one asks you to sit still.

  • Things to hold

A basket of fidgets and textured balls within reach. Take one, put it down, ask for another.

  • Floor and table

Blocks, paper and crayons, laid out the same way each visit so nothing changes unannounced.

  • On video, camera off

By video, the camera can stay off for the whole session. Your child can talk, draw or play out of frame.

    How sessions from home work

How fees work

The answers to what nearly every parent asks before a first session.

  • Insurance we work with

Hush is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If you want a clinician who bills your plan, we will gladly give you the names of colleagues.

    • Out of network with insurance plans

    • No Medicare or Medicaid

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at the end of each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards. Your clinician gives you the fee in writing before you start. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one. We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Each month we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything, so ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

We do not check benefits, because we do not bill your plan. If you want to know whether your plan reimburses, call it before the first session and ask about out-of-network mental health services for a child.

By video

Where we see families by video

By video we see families in states where we are licensed: today, Nevada. Your child and you must be in Nevada during the session.

  • Reno
  • Sparks
  • Carson City
  • Incline Village
  • Minden
  • Fernley

If you are outside Nevada during the session, we cannot see you yet. We will help you find someone licensed where you live.

Questions

What parents ask us most

Do you take my insurance?

Hush is out of network with insurance plans. You pay for each session yourself, and we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses part of it. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts about an hour. You talk with your clinician first, while your child settles in or waits in the quiet corner. Your clinician explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy. At the end, you decide together whether to continue.

Do you diagnose autism or ADHD?

No. We do not diagnose or test. We work with what you already know about your child. If you are still looking for an evaluation, we can help you find a clinic that does them.

Can my child keep the camera off by video?

Yes. The camera can stay off for the whole session, and your child can talk while drawing or playing out of frame. If your child wants it on later, that is also fine.

How does consent work for my child?

A parent or legal guardian signs consent before every child's first session. Your clinician explains Nevada's rules in writing. We see children from 5 to 12; for teens we can suggest colleagues.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock, so do not use them to reach us in a crisis.
